Siam Yamato Steel signed contract with PEA to manage electric power from floating solar
Sompong Dumrongongtragool, Deputy Governor (Business and Marketing), Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) and Jaydsada Plungmanee, Managing Director of Siam Yamato Steel Co., Ltd. (SYS) signed a contract of electric power management generated by the Floating Solar system. The ceremony was taken at Huai Pong Factory’s meeting room, Siam Yamato Steel Company Limited, WHA Eastern Industrial Estate (Map Ta Phut), Rayong Province, in which Mr. Weerapong Duangpiboon, Assistant Director of the Office of Map Ta Phut Industrial Port as the witness also participated in the ceremony.
The project of electric power management by the Floating Solar system is the collaboration between PEA and the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT), aiming to increase energy efficiency in the industrial estate. PEA shall install a floating solar power generator at a reservoir area in Smart Park Industrial Estate, Rayong Province, which is operated by IEAT.
SYS which is the manufacturer of hot rolled structural steel for over 25 years with its factories located at Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate and WHA Eastern Industrial Estate, are selected by IEAT to be a pilot project for applying the electric power generation technology from renewable energy and the power measurement system. Apart from increasing electric power efficiency, it is not only a cost-effective solution, and the manufacturing cost reduction, but also driving toward environmental improvement and renewable energy management.
Sompong revealed that PEA will be responsible for the survey, design, installation and maintenance of the Floating Solar power generators throughout the duration of the contract with more than 11,984 kilowatts (kWp) capacity in IEAT reservoir area. This project utilizes the Digital Platform to manage energy in the industrial sector and also help to reduce electricity price concretely, in response to the IEAT's policy toward a green, community-friendly industry and sustainable ecosystem.
Jaydsada revealed that “SYS is proud to be selected as the first company in the industrial estate to participate in this project. SYS factories usually uses electricity as the main power supply for producing structural steel products in both domestic and international standards. The efficiency of electric power management is crucial, especially replacing fossil fuel with renewable energy.
This Floating Solar project is a clean energy power generation that will minimize the depletion of the world's limited resources, reducing greenhouse gas emission and manufacturing costs, which is in line with the company's principle to realize the sustainable resource and energy consumption, reaffirming the SYS’s business philosophy as Thai Steel Manufacturer with Green heart,” Jaydsada further added.
